P.I.E. – MEPs call for action to tackle pharmaceutical pollution

11 Mar 2020

On 5th March the European Parliament’s Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) adopted a motion for resolution calling for new measures to tackle pharmaceutical pollution.
The ENVI committee members unanimously agree that the EU should take measures towards more sensible use and disposal of pharmaceuticals to prevent risks to the environment and public health, says Environment Committee in the press release.
MEPs also call for greener use of pharmaceuticals, which can be less harmful for the environment.
They believe measures to reduce the pollution should include the entire life cycle of drugs, from design and production to disposal, in order to reduce waste, and that it should be carefully monitored.
The resolution will now go onto the agenda of the next plenary session of the EU Parliament for final adoption.
